With summer in full swing and ice cream trucks rolling through neighborhoods, the Central Rabbinical Congress (CRC) is reminding consumers about important kashrus concerns tied to these popular seasonal treats.
In a bulletin, the CRC Kashrus Division warned that many ice cream trucks advertise the brand or source of their ice cream, but that alone does not guarantee kashrus compliance. In many cases, the bulletin states, the truck itself operates without proper kosher supervision, and no one takes responsibility for how the products are handled, stored, or served.
These concerns are not limited to ice cream trucks, but extend as well to bakery trucks, acai bowl trucks, and other food vendors on wheels, according to the CRC.
The CRC advises all consumers to verify that a truck has a valid kosher certificate with current supervision before making a purchase. Specifically, the certificate should clearly list the truck’s license plate number to confirm that the supervision applies to that exact vehicle and not just the product brand.
The CRC concluded its bulletin by wishing the community a safe and kosher summer and reminding residents to stay vigilant to protect their families’ standards of kashrus.

Just for clarification, in case anyone gets confused, this is the Hisachdus CRC, not the Chicago Rabbinical Council
