Congressman Josh Gottheimer Visits Lakewood, Meeting With Locals As He Pursues The Governorship In 2025

In a move reflecting Lakewood’s growing political clout, Congressman Josh Gottheimer made several stops in Lakewood on Tuesday as part of his campaign for governor in 2025. Gottheimer met with residents at three popular local spots – Gelbstein’s Bakery, Bagel Nosh, and South Side Sandwich Shop – engaging directly with community members and listening to their concerns.

Gottheimer, a Democrat representing New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District, has cited Lakewood’s challenges as examples of the broader reforms needed across the state. From infrastructure to education, he highlighted the importance of addressing the unique needs of Lakewood’s growing population.

In addition to his focus on local issues, Gottheimer has been a leading pro-Israel advocate in Congress, strengthening his ties with Lakewood’s sizable Jewish community. Known for his bipartisan approach and strong stance on fighting antisemitism, Gottheimer has consistently pushed for increased security funding for Jewish schools and shuls.
