Community Medical Center is moving forward with the next phase of a $600 million, multi-year expansion, as officials seek approval for a major new addition to its campus.
The hospital, part of RWJBarnabas Health, has filed an application with the Toms River Planning Board for a seven-story, 444,000-square-foot expansion. Plans also include reconstructing the driveway off Route 37, redesigning patient drop-off areas to improve traffic flow, and upgrading utilities, stormwater systems, lighting, and landscaping.
The project builds on earlier improvements, including a central utility plant and a new visitor parking garage that opened in February 2025 with free parking.
Hospital officials said the expansion is part of a long-term master plan launched in 2019 to modernize facilities and expand capacity. The hospital, which has 617 beds, is the largest acute care facility in Ocean County.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for April 15 at 6 p.m., where board members will consider the next phase of construction.
