On Wednesday evening, more than 65 members of Chaveirim of Central Jersey took part in a large-scale search drill aimed at sharpening their emergency response skills. The exercise, which spanned various locations across the Lakewood area, tested the organization’s highly specialized grid-search system used in real-life missing person incidents.
The drill tasked members with locating both a simulated missing person and a hidden vehicle, requiring teams to coordinate efficiently within their assigned search zones. Working against the clock, the members utilized the grid-search protocol designed to activate and deploy volunteers at a moment’s notice.
“Our system allows us to rapidly assign search zones and activate members in real-time,” a Chaveirim spokesperson told Lakewood Alerts. “Last night’s exercise simulated a real missing persons case, with a volunteer hiding in a public area and a vehicle parked separately. The goal was to see how quickly our team could locate both.”
The drill is one of several training exercises conducted by Chaveirim every few months to ensure members are well-prepared for emergency situations. Looking ahead, Chaveirim is planning an even more complex drill involving multiple neighborhood Chaveirim branches, which will include challenging terrain such as wooded and swampy areas.
