A kol koreh issued by the BMG roshei yeshiva stating that it is assur to attend a Chanukah concert that was being planned in Jackson, has resulted in the concert being canceled.
The letter states that the roshei yeshiva became aware of plans to hold a concert in Jackson and felt obligated to publicly clarify the daas Torah on the matter. According to the letter, similar events have previously been addressed by leading rabbinic authorities in Eretz Yisrael and the United States, who paskened against participation in such gatherings.
The kol koreh cites concerns related to tznius and the overall atmosphere of these events, including issues of mixed participation and standards inconsistent with accepted Torah values. The letter further notes that such programs can have a negative influence not only on those who attend, but also on the surrounding environment and the broader tzibbur.

Which American Gedolim said years ago that all concerts are forbidden?
Ask the Rosh Yeshivas if you really want to know. The Rosh Yeshivos are giants in Torah and in wisdom, they are the ones who lead us and guide us, and we should trust them a little when they take such actions.
The letter actually is a contradiction. It first says that even separate seating shows are assur (which isn’t true) and then says Jackson is part of lakewood, which in essence is saying we want our standards to be different.
When there is a Rabbinic will, there is a halachic way.
“The roshei yeshiva emphasize that there are permissible and appropriate avenues for simcha and music that align with halachic and hashkafic guidelines, and they encourage the public to seek out those alternatives.”
This is not accurate. This does not appear in the Kol Koreh.
Instead everyone will be by 7/11 quick check
Think before you do
Just because theirs these people who live their life waiting for events to happen so they can make issues
No rosh yeshiva really know what’s going on their just listening to what these people who love to.make issues
I heard directly from a big rosh yeshiva that the reason he signs thing is because come to him and ask him to sighn stuff and he doesn’t want that c’v to think someone is lying so he assumes their saying the emes
the Roshei Yeshiva know what their talking about about. There is always a horrible atmosphere at all these concerts
The letter makes no reference to the issue of music zecher lechurban.
It makes reference to “standards”. Can someone finish the sentence…
“The problem with a concert is…”
Why not spell out the issue?
As an aside, which Gedolim of the precious generation declared concerts assur?
I know of a few who would have no issue with it.
Someone finish this sentence…
These Gedolim declared concerts assur…
I don’t understand why concerts get banned a day or two before the event. Tickets were sold weeks ago. The events have been advertised for weeks and yet time and time again, people wake up right before the concert to ban it.
Are they waiting so the producers can lose the most amount of money?
no you mechutzaf. they are busy and all see all these ads for concerts right away
RECHILLUS IS RETZICHA. Rabbis are not exempt. The damages from this RECHILLUS and to countless, inclto the entire choir are infinate and unimaginable.
dont you go give mussar to the gedolei hador
The people assuring everything, need a reality check.Unfortunately they refuse to learn that far more damage will be caused to yiddishe neshamos who are fed up with these types of proclamations and n dvwill seek releases elsewhere.
Just keep wearing a white shirt and all will be fine.
So it’s totally fine to go to the Robert’s carnival on Chol Hamoed, where there is one big mixed crowd, but it’s assur to go to a concert where it’s separate seating only.
Probably not separate seating and a concert does have a much closer environment given the social asspect tho is still better than the alternative
This concert had a separate seating option and a FAMILY seating option.
These are little boys singing. They are singing Chanukah songs and Jewish music.
Judging by the contents of your comment. I think even if it was explained to you, you wouldn’t understand.
Closer than sharing a bounce ride?
The Roberts carnival are catered to younger kids and families. At a concert, it pretty much all teens, which can be a problem.
The rosh yeshiva have no idea they signed what they did and if you have a pair of eyes and look around, you should probably come to the conclusion that a Miami boys choir is not the issue in Lakewood. With everything going on it’s sick to see how religion is used as a cover up for people to do what they want. People use a few brain cells look around at what’s going on do you really think we should be focusing on some yeshiva boys sing some good Jewish music are people really this insane and stupid?
maskim
The Rosh Yeshivas know more about what’s happening in Lakewood then anyone, they are the ones that people run to when there is an issue. They are gedolim and have true Torah Knowledge how to deal with isses facing the klal.
why are you calling the roshei yeshiva “insane” and “stupid”
To be honest i dont understand it at all but i trust the Rosh Yeshivas who to anyone that knows them its obvious that they dont have one selfish bone in their body and are 100 percent living for other people and hashem.
If you want to run a concert then the proper people need to get paid or it will be ruled ossur.
Eventually these shakedowns will be criminally prosecuted
you probably get paid more than the roshei yeshivah
This happened before with the Miami concert in Asbury Park. I’m surprised the organizers didn’t learn from that time that concerts aren’t accepted in this area. I believe that the advertisement for the choir specified that the concert would be only for family and friends not the public. Was smart to cancel. Maybe just do on a small scale. Or do it far away.
Nothing is allowed anymore and that’s why so many kids off the derech and hate religion. Everything is assur and a kor koreih needed. This is why we have so many kids off the D there is no outlet for them everything is assur and a problem.
Agree
Continuation;
Then advertise Fundraisers for Oorah, Ohel, Misaskim, Amudim and Chai Lifeline.
Let our kids see all the fun you can have if your family grew up without Shabbos, or Kashrus, or Stability, or Physical Health or Emotional Health.
Just don’t be surprised when they wish in their heart that a family member would get sick, or die so they can be invited to an exclusive Chanukah Party/Free concert for victims.
Don’t be surprised when they opt out of the community altogether.
Don’t be surprised when they walk away from double standards; Where the more NORMALLY they function and behave, the less music and relaxation they are permitted to enjoy!
Wake Up!
That is totally false.
The title of this article itself is untrue.
The shows were postponed, not canceled at all – and not because of any kol korai. Both shows in Jackson and in Brooklyn were postponed on wed. Morning at 9am when I as a Jackson ticketholder (separate seating) received an email explaining the postponement because of security concerns in the aftermath of current events.
(It wasn’t till 11am afterwards that this article about the Kol Korai came out).
you also sound like your off the D why are you arguing with the roshei hayeshiva
Here we go again.
Destroy the parnassa of the people who give us simchas hachayim.
Damage reputations of people who inspire or youth to sing about Yiddishkeit.
Denigrate families who are raising their children without television and movies.
The hebrew letter itself contains these untruths:
1- that gedolim in america and israel have banned even separate seating shows. Tottally untrue. They have encouraged it.
2- That even family seating has been assured in America. Tottally untrue.
Yep! Let’s just continue pushing more and more people away from Frummkeit over ridiculous psaks like this. Maybe the Rav should look at the OTD rate in Lakewood and Jackson and internalize why more and more people are leaving the insular communities they grew up in.
their leaving because of people like you
They are leaving because of people like you, who don’t allow people (especially teens) do anything, and that everything is “assur”, so they look in other places and eventually go off. That’s what is happening
In the Chassidic world, Rebbes issue edicts. In the Litvish mesorah, if you want to assur something, you explain the logic. Not only did the Roshei Yeshiva not do that, but my request from all the Daas Torah followers to simply explain what the problem is, has brought no response.
No pilpul needed, just say, “The reason to assur the concert is ….?
I look forward to hearing from you!
“In the Chassidic world, Rebbes issue edicts” do they say their reasons either
There was a Joey Newcomb concert in Leisure Chateau on Tuesday night, which was totally allowed and not said a word about, and that was IN Lakewood. This concert isn’t even in Lakewood and it’s still getting cancelled.
The letter was quite possibly forged by someone who’s bored and looking to make trouble. And if that’s the case, they should know that forgery and ruining other people’s parnassa is WAY worse than attending a simple concert.
And so these kids end up at music festivals and Disturbed concerts as teenagers. Great chinuch.
The Gra that they quote says that we need to honor Shabbos for its own sake, not for our enjoyment. When we make extra food for Shabbos but mean our personal enjoyment, Hashem does not like it.
How is this applicable to a concert? Why are other forms of enjoyment permitted, such as restaurants and playgrounds for children, yet the concert is not?
I don’t understand the logic.
