Car Crash At Route 70 And Ridgeway Leaves Driver “Extensively” Injured

A motor vehicle crash involving two cars occurred on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of State Highway 70 and Ridgeway left a driver with “extensive” leg injuries.

According to the Manchester Township Police Department, a blue 2010 Honda Civic and a black 2023 Honda CRV were involved in the crash. The investigation revealed that the CRV was traveling northbound on County Route 571 when the Civic, attempting to make a left turn onto State Highway 70 eastbound, pulled in front of the CRV, causing a collision. The CRV was directed off the roadway and into a traffic sign, while the Civic rotated and stopped in the intersection.

The driver of the Honda Civic, 66-year-old Ledy Huallpajaimes of Manchester, NJ, suffered extensive leg injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ, where she is currently listed in stable condition. The driver of the Honda CRV, 62-year-old David Castro of Allenwood, NJ, did not sustain any injuries.

The roadway was closed during the investigation and cleanup, which was assisted by EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, firefighters from Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Hatzolah, and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics.

The investigation, led by Ptl. Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Section, is ongoing, but failure to observe the traffic signal appears to be the primary contributing factor.
