Brick Township Woman Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing Two-Year-Old Brother

Ocean County Prosecutor Brad Billhimer announced that Marlene Rodriguez, 20, of Brick Township, has been charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following a shocking incident that occurred in Brick Township on Saturday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Brick Township Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting an emergency at a residence on Burke Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered a two-year-old male child suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

The child was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that the child’s sister, Marlene Rodriguez, was responsible for the stabbing.

Rodriguez was taken into custody at Brick Township Police Headquarters shortly after the incident and has been transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
