Brick Township Man Pleads Guilty in Gruesome Murder and Dismemberment Case

A Brick Township man has pleaded guilty to charges related to the murder and dismemberment of a Toms River landlord in July, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Jared M. Krysiak, 34, admitted to a charge of desecration of human remains before Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan on Monday. The plea relates to the death of Kerry M. Rollason, 56, of Toms River, on July 3. Krysiak is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7, with prosecutors seeking an eight-year prison term.

The case unfolded on July 5, when law enforcement arrived at a Ravenwood Drive home in Toms River to arrest Maxwell Johnston, 35, of Manchester, for the murder of Gabriella Caroleo, 25, of Manchester. Krysiak and two others—Danielle Bolstad, 42, of Barnegat, and Jared Palumbo, 36, of Manchester—exited the home as a standoff ensued between Johnston and authorities. The standoff ended hours later when Johnston fatally shot himself.

Subsequent investigations revealed that during the standoff, Johnston, with the help of Elizabeth Mascarelli, had killed Rollason. Authorities later discovered Rollason’s dismembered remains on July 12, in black trash bags at a Jackson property. The bags contained additional evidence, including a hatchet.

Investigators determined that Mascarelli, Krysiak, Bolstad, and Palumbo assisted in dismembering and disposing of Rollason’s remains. Krysiak, who was charged on July 13 and arrested after a three-day manhunt, has been held at Ocean County Jail since his capture.

Mascarelli pleaded guilty earlier this month and is set for sentencing on January 31. Charges against Bolstad and Palumbo are still pending.
