A 64-year-old Brick Township man died Wednesday afternoon following a motorcycle accident on Brick Boulevard. Horace Giambona lost control of his Harley Davidson and collided with a pickup truck near Yorktowne Boulevard, according to Brick Township police.
The incident occurred around 2:34 p.m. as Rick Stamm, 56, also of Brick, was driving his 2013 Dodge Ram pickup northbound on Brick Boulevard. Stamm had come to a stop at the Yorktowne Boulevard intersection to allow an ambulance, with activated lights and siren, to proceed through the intersection, police reported.
Giambona was approaching the intersection on his 2000 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, traveling northbound on Brick Boulevard. According to police, he appeared to be attempting to stop but skidded and lost control of the motorcycle. Giambona laid the bike down on its side, resulting in both him and the motorcycle sliding forward. Giambona was thrown from the bike and collided with the left rear portion of Stamm’s pickup truck, sustaining critical injuries.
Emergency responders transported Giambona to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The motorcycle eventually came to rest in the right lane of Brick Boulevard, just north of Yorktowne Boulevard. Stamm was uninjured in the crash, police said.
The accident remains under investigation as authorities seek to determine the exact cause of the crash.
