Brick Police, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Save Suicidal Man After Hours-Long Search in Woods

A suicidal man who fled into a wooded area in Brick Township was safely located Thursday morning following a multi-hour search involving local police and county resources.

According to the Brick Township Police Department, officers responded to the Midstreams section at approximately 7:00 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had threatened to harm himself before leaving his home. Investigators quickly determined he had entered a nearby wooded area, prompting a coordinated search effort.

The operation included officers on foot, K-9 units and drone support from both the Brick Township Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said responders navigated challenging terrain, including dense woods, thick brush, swampy areas and creeks, while attempting to locate the individual.

During the search, the man attempted to evade officers by hiding and concealing his location, police said. He was ultimately located through coordination between ground teams and aerial support.

The man was safely taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Officials said he was not injured.

The search concluded at approximately 11:00 a.m., about four hours after it began. Police credited the joint effort and persistence of responding officers with bringing the situation to a safe resolution.
