A Brick Township man has been charged following an investigation into a series of vehicle burglaries targeting work vehicles in Brick and Point Pleasant Borough.
Brick Township Police said officers began investigating several burglaries reported on the north side of the township during September, with approximately $15,000 worth of tools, equipment and other property reported stolen.
Detectives identified the suspect as 35-year-old Anthony S. Cerchio of Brick. Police obtained a court-authorized search warrant for his residence and vehicle, which was executed by members of the Patrol Division, Street Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau.
During the search, investigators recovered approximately $15,000 worth of tools and other property believed to have been taken during the burglaries.
Cerchio was charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of theft, receiving stolen property and fencing. He was released on a summons pending further court proceedings.
Police said the investigation also uncovered evidence connecting Cerchio to multiple vehicle burglaries in Point Pleasant Borough, where additional stolen property was recovered. Point Pleasant Borough Police filed separate charges in connection with incidents in that municipality.
The charges are accusations, and Cerchio is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
