Gov. Phil Murphy on Thursday selected NJ Secretary of State Tahesha Way as his new Lt. Governor following the passing of Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver last month.
According to David Wildstein of the New Jersey Globe, the 51-year-old Way will remain in her position as secretary of state, a position she has held since 2018, while performing her Lt. Governor duties.
The Globe also reports that Way is not expected to run for Governor in 2025, when Governor Murphy will leave office due to term limits.
The Lt. Governor position does not require Senate confirmation, and Way is expected to be sworn in by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner on Friday.
