The Jackson Township Planning Board late Monday night approved Bais Yaakov of Jackson’s application to erect 4 two-story buildings on a campus on East Veterans Highway near the Royal Grove neighborhood.
Once built, the campus will consist of one elementary school building, two high school buildings, and a gymnasium. In total, the school buildings will be able to accommodate approximately 2,350 students.
The submitted plans show two driveways on East Veterans leading to the campus’ parking lot, which will have 503 parking spots, as well as a dedicated bus lane for picking up and offloading students.
Neighbors in the area have been vehemently opposed to the school campus, arguing that it will hurt their privacy, and had a hired attorney representing them in tonight’s hearing, but to no avail.
Some fireworks occurred during the meeting, when the attorney representing neighbors opposed to the schools stormed away from the podium after being interrupted by a member of the Planning Board. A brief intermission was taken, and cooler heads eventually prevailed.
