BMG Alumnus to Become Rav of New Shul in Plano, Texas

On August 23rd, the Plano, Texas, community will be holding a hachtara for the Rav of their new shul Kehilas Lev Yisrael, Rav Eliezer Poupko.

Originally a talmid of Yeshiva Shaar Hatorah in Queens, Rav Poupko moved on to Lakewood and received semicha from Bais Medrash Govoah, as well as outreach training from the Ner LeElef program. In 2016 Palo Alto Kollel in California and then in 2018 while continuing in the kollel became the Rav of the Bar Yochai Sephardic Minyan in Sunnyvale.

Now the BMG alumnus will be leading the growing community in Plano, Texas. Rav Poupko will also be the second seder Rosh Chabura in the Dallas Lakewood kollel.

Plano is located just north of Dallas and only a ten-minute ride away from the cheder shared with the Dallas community.

The community was established by Rav Zakon’s kiruv organization, DATA of Plano, 15 years ago. Due to its growth, he recognized the need for a full-time rov to focus on the community’s internal affairs while he continues outreach efforts.
