According to Forbes, the wealthiest person in the Garden State is someone you probably never heard of – Rocco Commisso. He has a mind-boggling estimated net worth of $7.8 billion, making him the 93rd-richest American, and the 276th-richest person in the world.
Commisso made his money in media: he is the founder and CEO of Mediacom, the fifth largest cable television company in the US. He also has been the owner and chairman of the New York Cosmos, a soccer team and since June 2019, is the owner of the Italian football club ACF Fiorentina.
Commisso was born in Calabria, Italy in 1949 and immigrated to the United States in 1962. Now a resident of Saddle River, he is married and has two children.
