A 67-year-old Barnegat Township man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife following a domestic violence incident, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Police responded to a home on Windward Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 7, where officers found 69-year-old Eileen Garvin deceased on the floor. Her husband, William Garvin, was found seated in a chair with a knife protruding from his chest and was transported to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he remains in stable condition.
Investigators determined that William Garvin was responsible for his wife’s death and that his knife wound was self-inflicted, authorities said. He was charged with murder and served with a complaint-warrant at the hospital. Once released, Garvin will be transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he will remain pending a detention hearing.
The investigation was conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
