More than 1.4 million homeowners and renters in New Jersey will automatically receive their ANCHOR property tax benefits this year, but state officials are urging residents to ensure their personal information is up-to-date to avoid any delays.
The ANCHOR program, which stands for Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters, is in its third year, providing payments between $500 and $1,750. While many recipients are automatically enrolled, those who have changed their bank account details, address, or name since last year are required to file a new application by Sunday, Sept. 15, even if they received an auto-enrollment letter. To update their information, applicants will need their ANCHOR ID and PIN, which are provided in the benefit confirmation letter.
For those who have misplaced their letters, additional security verification steps will be required, according to the state.
The state has also mailed application packets to another 2 million residents who are either new to the ANCHOR program or did not qualify for automatic payments. These individuals have until Saturday, Nov. 30, to apply for the benefit.
More information on the program, as well as assistance, is available at anchor.nj.gov, by calling the ANCHOR hotline at (609) 826-4282 or 1-888-238-1233, or by visiting a Regional Information Center for in-person support.
