Authorities are investigating after a porpoise was found washed up on an Ocean County beach on Tuesday – the umpteenth time in just a few weeks that a large marine animal has died after washing ashore.
The porpoise was found at around 7:30 am at the Sixth Avenue beach in Toms River. Officials are expected to perform a necropsy to determine how the animal died.
The recent deaths of numerous animals washing up on New Jersey and New York beaches have raised serious concerns about offshore windmill farms currently being constructed.
Gov. Phil Murphy insists that the deaths have nothing to do with that work, but numerous others – including Rep. Chris Smith – have demanded that the work be halted until a full investigation can take place.
