A deadly shooting in Jackson that claimed the life of a 28-year-old woman has now become a national story, after it was revealed that the victim was the sister of NBA player Naz Reid, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Authorities said Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Toraya Reid, who was found fatally shot Saturday morning outside the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road.
Police responded to the complex shortly after 11 a.m. for reports of gunfire and discovered Reid near the exit with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say Green, who was in a dating relationship with Reid, was spotted fleeing along North New Prospect Road before being taken into custody without incident. He faces charges of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The case gained national attention after it was revealed that the victim was the sister of Naz Reid, a New Jersey native who just completed a breakout season with the Timberwolves. Reid, 25, signed a five-year contract extension with Minnesota last year and was named the NBA’s “Sixth Man of the Year” for the 2023–24 season.
Reid’s representatives did not immediately return requests for comment. The Timberwolves have also not issued a public statement as of Monday evening.
