6 Chickens Killed In Toms River Fire

Toms River Fire Company No. 1 and Toms River Fire Company No. 2 were dispatched on Tuesday afternoon for an outside fire in the rear of a property located on Parkview Lane.

First arriving units confirmed a fire in the backyard involving a shed/chicken coop.

Crews from Toms River Fire Companies No. 1 and No. 2 operated for approximately one hour. The fire was contained to the shed/chicken coop on the rear of the property. Approximately 11 chickens were inside the enclosure when the fire occurred.

6 chickens perished in the fire. Toms River Animal Control responded and removed the deceased chickens from the scene.

The fire accidental in nature, caused by an electric heating lamp being utilized inside of the shed.
