The fire first began early Tuesday afternoon, with multiple local fire companies responding to a wooded area off E. Commodore Boulevard, a largely commercial section of Jackson near the 195.
Over the course of several hours, the brush fire grew from a small conflagration to dozens of acres in size, prompting firefighters to evacuate about 30 homes and businesses in the area.
Fire officials said Wednesday moning the blaze had grown to 70 acres, with the fire 70% contained – enough to ensure the safety of all nearby structures.
Firefighters will now allow the blaze to burn itself out, though all roads and structures nearby have been deemed safe and permitted to open.
