Jackson Township officials say hundreds of rental properties remain out of compliance with local registration requirements, prompting a new round of enforcement action from the township’s Rental Safety Housing Bureau.
Mayor Jennifer Kuhn and the Township Administration announced that a recent cross-comparison audit conducted by township staff found that 458 rental properties had not been properly registered as of Wednesday morning.
According to the township, the noncompliant properties account for $4,580 in outstanding registration fees owed to the Rental Safety Housing Bureau. Under current ordinance enforcement, landlords found in violation are also subject to a $500 fine for each unregistered property, amounting to $229,000 in potential penalties.
In total, township officials said the amount tied to the noncompliance comes to $233,580.
Beginning Friday, May 8, 2026, the Rental Safety Housing Bureau will begin issuing Notices of Violation to landlords identified as being out of compliance.
“We are not going to stand for landlords not following the rules,” Kuhn said. “The Township will fully enforce Council’s ordinances to ensure fairness, safety, and accountability across all rental properties in Jackson. For too long, many landlords have taken advantage of our town and have ignored our laws. Under my administration, that stops now!”
Township officials are urging property owners to immediately review their registration status and ensure they are in full compliance with local ordinances to avoid additional enforcement action.
