A young Toms River man was killed and a Long Branch man was seriously injured early Sunday morning after they were ejected from a vehicle during a crash on the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey State Police said.
The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. near milepost 73.2 in Lacey Township, according to Trooper Christopher Postorino. Brian Fort, 20, of Toms River, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, identified as Errol Jeffrey, 22, of Long Branch, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
State police said Fort was driving an Infiniti northbound on the Parkway when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the roadway. The car traveled down an embankment, struck multiple trees, and overturned before coming to rest.
Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the crash, police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by New Jersey State Police.
