14-Year-Old Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Minivan In Manchester

A 14-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Thursday night after being hit by a minivan while riding along Route 37, according to Manchester police.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. when Frederick Grimm, 55, of Manahawkin, driving a black 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, struck the bicyclist as he crossed Commonwealth Boulevard. The bicyclist, who was not using illuminating lamps as required by New Jersey law, was crossing against the green traffic signal on Route 37.

The teenager suffered serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment.

Captain Albert Vega stated that the primary contributing factor in the crash is failure to yield, but the investigation is ongoing.
